Getting started

Mixer

2 minute read, 6 steps

The Mixer is where you try a color before you squeeze any paint. Your tubes are along the bottom. Tap a tube to add one part of it, and Your Mix on the left shows the result right away. On the right is the color you want.

It is the quickest way to learn how your own tubes mix. You see how strong each one is: a little blue turns yellow into green fast.

Here we mix a fresh green from a box of Liquitex Basics: 3 parts yellow, 1 part blue and 1 part white. Then we save it with a lighter green and find both again.

  • Choose the tubes you mix from
  • Set the color you want
  • Tap tubes to mix and read the match
  • Let Get Mix find the parts
  • Save your mixes to a palette
  • Find your saved mixes again
Open the MixerOpens the Mixer in a new tab. Pick your palette and start tapping tubes.

Step 3

Tap tubes to mix

Tap a tube 1 to add one part of it. Tap Primary Yellow, then Primary Blue. One part of each makes a dark green.

The match 2 says how close your mix is to your color. Tap yellow twice more and the green gets brighter. Add one part of white. Try a second part: too light. The minus button 3 under a tube takes one part away.

With 3 yellow, 1 blue and 1 white, it matches.

Step 4

Stuck? Let Get Mix find the parts

Press Reset to clear the tubes, then Get Mix. It finds the parts from the tubes in your palette and shows the recipe.

Close the recipe and the parts are on your tubes: here the same 3 yellow, 1 blue and 1 white. You can keep adjusting by hand from there.

Step 5

Save your mix

Press Add under Your Mix. The mix goes into your palette. Tap white once more for a lighter green and press Add again. Press Show Palette to see both.

Press Create, give the palette a name, here Greens, and press Save. It is saved to your account 1, with both greens in it 2. Every mix you add later saves too.

Frequently Asked Questions

One part is one scoop of paint, all the same size: the same length squeezed from a tube, or the same palette knife tip. 3 parts yellow to 1 part blue means three scoops of yellow for every scoop of blue.

Yes. The Mixer mixes from measurements of real pigments, so yellow and blue make green the way they do on your palette. How Trycolors works, in the Tutorials section, explains it.
